Now You Can Have a Biscuits and Gravy Pizza Recipe!

Biscuits and Gravy Pizza

Alas, we have had some great culinary dishes through the month but it’s time to get to the final episode of Starch Madness.  This week we combine two GrateTV favorites – Biscuits and Gravy and Pizza.

The inspiration for the recipe came to us in one of those “forehead slapping moments.”  GrateTV viewer and longtime friend Phil Wingo from #porkmafia sent us an image of the dish from a roadside joint that he stopped at during his travels.  It was a “WOW, why didn’t I think of that” moment.

Pizza Slices

Slices of goodness!

The recipe and process are straight forward.  You will need to gather a few simple ingredients.  Pizza dough, white gravy, sausage, spices and some cheese.

Flour your peel, stretch out the dough, use white gravy or country gravy for the sauce.  Top with your favorite breakfast sausage and some cheese and bake it on the grill.  Delicious!

Helpful hints:

  • Preheat the grill stone.
  • Make sure you sprinkle flour or cornmeal on the pizza peel before you stretch out the dough.  The flour acts like little ball bearings helping your finished product slide easily on to the stone.
  • Try to use the same style dough every time you make pizza.  The consistency will help you with grill temps and cooking time.

GrateTV Biscuits and Gravy and Pizza Recipe!

  • 1 recipe pizza dough
  • Flour or cornmeal
  • 1 cup Country Gravy
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese

  1. Preheat a clean pizza stone on a hot grill to about 400 degrees. Put the pizza stone on the grill while it is preheating. This will help prevent the stone from cracking.
  2. Add some flour or cornmeal to a pizza peel or sheet pan.
  3. Stretch or roll out a dough to your desired thickness.
  4. Spread the Country Gravy evenly over the dough.
  5. Add your favorite toppings like breakfast sausage, onion, peppers etc.
  6. Top with cheese.
  7. Bake on the grill for about 20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the chees has melted.
  8. Slice and enjoy!

We enjoy cooking pizza outdoors.  GrateTV has done several episodes where we cook our pie on the grill.

Check out this episode where we make Pizza on the grill stone.
